Basketball Betting Odds

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Wednesday Aug 4th, 2010

Even though the National Basketball League is not as strong now that there are only like 8 teams in the competition, it also probably means that the basketball betting odds are not as popular as they used to be. I am sure that there are still the die hard basketball fans out there that research the basketball betting odds before every game, but to be honest.

I have never ever looked up the betting odds of a basketball game in the newspaper or on an online betting odds site like www.sportsbet.com. Do you watch basketball? Even though the Aussie National Basketball League is pretty much collapsing, the NBA is as popular as ever. Perhaps you prefer the American league. I would not blame you. Basketball is VERY popular in the United States and the basketball betting odds are hot, hot, hot! Sportingbet.com will definitely have the latest Aussie basketball betting odds and the most up to date NBA betting odds at your perusal.

So if you do enjoy a bit of a bet or enjoy your basketball – you will be able to find the most recent basketball betting odds to help make your mind up as to which team to bet on. Living in Melbourne, there is a HUGE sporting culture here – but the only way you get to see a game of Aussie basketball is if you watch it on pay TV, or if you actually head to the game itself. There isn’t much advertising for the NBL either – so there is no wonder that the betting odds aren’t as highly searched for as they were previously.

Basketball Betting Odds

Most of the time gamblers will find that basketball betting odds are quoted in terms of the point spread. The point spread is the predicted margin of victory between the teams.

Theoretically it can also be understood as the point at which the betting public is equally split between two outcomes. Point spread betting is one of the most popularly used betting systems for betting on basketball. Betting odds suitably outfitted with a point spread will help gamblers understand who the favorite to win the game is and who the underdog is. Sometimes the betting odds are composed for money line bets. These spell out the amount of money that must be bet on a team in order to secure a winning. Money line bets do not expressly include point spread betting odds but are most often derived from them. The favorite team will require gamblers to put money on the table to get some back while this is not a pre-requisite while betting on the underdog team.

In several instances the betting odds also use an additional over/under figure. Bookmakers ordinarily analyze the game at hand and attempt to predict the total number of points that will be scored in the game by both teams put together. This figure is the day’s posted total and gamblers have to decide whether the actual game’s scores will be above or below this figure. Over and under bets are relatively easier to understand and predict because they do not require punters to pick any winner. Basketball betting odds for over/under bets are less complex and therefore attract the maximum number of gamblers all the time. Gamblers can simply look at the playing styles of the two teams to decide on whether to buy an over or an under bet. Aggressive teams play harder and generally score more than teams who are always on the defense.

Bet on NBL

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Thursday Nov 12th, 2009

The 2010 National Basketball League (NBL) season is well and truly underway and as the ladder sorts itself out, so to do punters sort out which betting odds are likely to offer the best value from mid week and weekend clashes.

The NBL has been up and running for nearly a month now which has seen the once struggling Wollongong Hawks fly to the top of the NBL table while last years’ defending champions the Melbourne Tigers are languishing in second last place with just two victories from three starts.

Punters looking to bet on NBL for round four, which still has three games remaining to see out its completion, should find some tasty basketball betting odds around the Gold Coast Blaze and Melbourne Tigers match up. The Gold Coast Blaze are another Gold Coast sporting franchise who have recently entered national competition and so far all signs have been good for other cash laden sides such as the Titans (NRL) and United (A – League).

They will play host to last year’s defending champions in the Melbourne Tigers and book makers are having great difficulty separating the two sides with the Tigers in as slight favourites with betting odds of $1.83 compared with the Gold Coast’s betting odds of $1.90. The Tigers sit just above the Blaze on percentage and, despite being only a fledgling club, the Blaze have plenty of local support up there on the Gold Coast and should muster a decent performance in an attempt to lift them off the bottom of the NBL ladder.

Point Spread Betting

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Thursday Nov 12th, 2009

Point Spread betting is available at many good online betting sites and is a type of betting that can be found on sports such as football and basketball.

Instead of the betting odds being available for a win or lose outcome, point spread betting allows you to place bets within a point margin on games played. Basketball betting allows you to use point spread betting and on each game you will have a choice of on which team you think will win or lose using the point spread betting method. This means that the bookmakers who have placed the basketball betting odds will have given each of the teams a plus or minus on the points scored. For instance bookmakers could offer a bet on a basketball game from the NBL such as Gold Coast versus Melbourne.

The bookmaker could offer a point spread betting of -15 for Gold Coast and +15 for Melbourne. The final scores for this game were 98-86 to gold Coast, but if you were to have placed a bet on the example of point spread betting odds given you would have actually won on the Melbourne team thanks to the extra 15 points given by the bookmaker at the start of the game. This point spread betting is also used in football games as well as basketball games and the point system is used in the same way for both. Bookmakers who offer point spread betting usually give the favourite of the two teams playing minus points and vice versa to the other team, making betting odds for some games not quite as obvious as they would be when betting on the winner or loser.

Bet on Sports: Point Spread Betting

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Wednesday Nov 4th, 2009

Sports betting is not always black and white and can often be a whole lot more complicated than simply picking the odd winner from week to week.

However, it is often the bets that aren’t so straight forward that can be far more rewarding in terms of dividends than just picking a winner and points spread betting is one such way.

If a certain fixture seems like a foregone conclusion leading into the weekends action then you might want to look at a more exotic bets such as the points spread.

Points spread betting extends to include quarter by quarter points, over and under betting odds, total winning margins as well as total points scored.

Picking a points spread can often be extremely rewarding and although it is one of the more difficult forms of betting to master, there are certain ways to increase your chances of winning.

The first and most important thing to look at is the recent form of each of the respective teams.

Even though a team may be winning consistently, they may be doing it with excellent defensive efforts meaning that the games may be low scoring, resulting in a lower points spread.

Also a team may have a tendency to produce a great opening or closing half means that half time point scores are not an accurate reflection of the final outcome which could net you a better dividend on the points spread.

If two teams play a free running and open style of football say in the AFL, then you’d be wise to bet on total points for the game being over two hundred for some great value.

Boomers

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Monday Oct 26th, 2009

Punters can not bet on the Boomers (Australia’s basketball team) at the moment, but they can access basketball betting odds for the current NBL season. There was plenty of news concerning the NBL, and its future, over the off-season, but the eight-team competition has started in 2009/2010, and betting odds are available at Sportingbet.com.au for the title winner.

The New Zealand Breakers are the current favourites to win the first premiership in the newly formed competition. They are at betting odds of $4 currently at Sportingbet, with Townsville next in line at $4.50. Perennial contender the Melbourne Tigers are at $5.50, along with the Perth Wildcats. It is always a safe bet to place a wager on Melbourne. Judging from recent history, they are always in the frame for the title. Cairns and Wollongong are both at $10, while, at the rear of the field, Adelaide and the Gold Coast Blaze are at $13. But, these basketball betting odds do indicate that we are in for an exciting and close season, and that can only be a good thing for NBL fans. These betting odds do make picking a winner a challenging exercise.

What will be interesting to see is how long this new competition can last. The NBL has struggled the generate revenue in recent seasons, and now, as a result, there are less teams participating. Can this new competition remain? We will wait and see, but, in the meantime, you can access basketball betting odds at Sportingbet.com.au on the title winner and individual matches.

Bet on NBA

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Wednesday Oct 21st, 2009

Basketball fans around the world will be quite literally salivating at the prospect of the 2009/2010 National Basketball Association season which get underway in just over a week on October 24th.

Despite being one of the longest sporting seasons in the world, many would be feeling that the three months since the Los Angeles Lakers secured the title is far too long between drinks.

Punters looking to fill the void have been able to do so in the last month with regular betting odds on Australia’s domestic season, the NBL, but for many punters having a bet on NBL is not the same as having a bet on the NBA.

With some of the world’s highest paid sportsman, the NBA takes basketball to a who9le new level and despite futures basketball betting odds markets being open since the day the season finished, punters would no doubt be looking for far more exotic betting options.

Exotic betting odds on various options include head to head betting (which is a simple as picking who you think might win), pick your own line (give one team a head start to even the odds), game total points, winning margins, half time/full time doubles, first scoring play, half time total points for both sides as well as line betting for the first half of play.

Basketball betting odds on all these and many more fantastic options will be available on each and every game right throughout the 2009/2010 NBA season.

Basketball Betting Odds 2009

Posted by Trix @ 12:00 AM, Tuesday Oct 20th, 2009

The basketball betting odds 2009 are only starting to be looked at seriously. The 2009 NBL season has just started and the basketball betting odds are probably not really accurate.

To have a sports bet online click here!

So soon into the season, the betting odds might not truly reflect how GOOD, or how BAD a team is. With a relatively smaller competition this year, the chances of your team winning, is increased. Sadly, there are only EIGHT teams in the NBL this year, after a very controversial year last year. This ultimately means that the basketball betting odds 2009 could really point to one or two of the stronger teams. It is WAY too early into the season to make a big call like that though. Is your NBL team still in the competition? If it is, is betting on your NBL team something that you regularly do? Do you know enough about your team and the others in the competition to be able to place successful bets?

The basketball betting odds will help to a certain extent, but a sound knowledge of the teams will dramatically increase your success. Or are you like me and got for the Tigers, because you live in Melbourne? I could look at the basketball betting odds and know MOST of the teams, but knowing how good they are is another thing! The betting odds on things like the overall season winner are pretty silly. Although, if you place a bet now on a team (and get to keep those betting odds), you might just win a fortune. But most betting odds sites will pay out on CURRENT betting odds. If you place your bet with a legit bookmaker, you will get paid, based on the betting odds when you placed the bet (at least, that’s my understanding).
